Frost Dates & Planting FAQ

Does a last frost date guarantee frost is over?

No. Historical climate statistics describe past patterns. Check the threshold and probability attached to a result and review the current forecast before planting.

Why does my town return no result?

A missing result may indicate unsupported coverage, missing records, or a service problem. It does not mean frost cannot occur. Try a nearby location only if you understand how its station differs from your garden, and verify the information against an original source.

Is a frost date a live weather forecast?

No. Use the National Weather Service for current forecasts and alerts. A climate normal and a forecast serve different purposes.

Can I plant every crop on the same date?

No. Crop tolerance, soil conditions, planting method, and seed-packet instructions matter. See the planting guides for planning examples.

How do I report an incorrect value?

Send the town and state, page URL, displayed value, and the source you are comparing it with through our Contact page. Please avoid sensitive personal information.

Where can I check sources and limitations?

Read Data Sources & Limitations and the Gardening & Data Disclaimer.
