Garden Clock’s purpose is to help home gardeners understand seasonal planting decisions. This policy sets the standards for content, data explanations, and corrections on gardenclock.com.
Sources and context
Climate information should identify its source and reference period. The site’s stated baseline is NOAA NCEI’s 1991–2020 climate normals. Planting guidance should distinguish historical weather information from crop-timing recommendations and link to relevant original sources where practical.
Explain uncertainty
Frost dates and planting windows are estimates. Content should explain the influence of local conditions, crop variety, station coverage, and weather variability. We should not present historical normals as a forecast or describe every garden in a town as having identical conditions.
Data and calculation changes
Changes to source data or calculation methods should be checked before release. Explanations should identify important limitations and avoid implying that an automated output has been individually verified when it has not. Coverage gaps and unavailable results should be communicated clearly.
Writing and automated assistance
Content may be prepared or revised with software assistance. The same sourcing and accuracy standards apply regardless of how a draft is produced. Tool output or an automatically generated draft should not be treated as evidence on its own.
Commercial relationships
Advertising and sponsored material should be identifiable. Commercial relationships should not determine climate values or remove important qualifications from planting guidance. Our Advertising Disclosure explains how commercial content should be presented.
Corrections
To report an error, send the page URL, town and state if relevant, and the value or statement you believe is incorrect. Include a source if you have one. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information. Reports should be checked against the relevant source before a correction is published. Questions or corrections?
